Springview

Community Improvement Program

Stage 1...the clean-up

The Springview, Nebraska, Community Improvement Program was formed by an act of the Springview Village Board on March 20, 2000.  One of the committees formed at the organizational meeting was the Main Street Committee.  This committee found an interest to remove some old buildings from some Main Street properties.  On Monday, April 10, several members of the committee and other interested parties started removing structures from two lots.  Due to the existence of a crawl space at the first location, it was determined to burn the structure "on site".

This view is from the north on Main Street.  The fire to remove the debris has been started.  The fire burned most of the building before it was extinguished due to an increase in the wind.
The fire is burning as the work crew watches.  There was a crew that monitored the burning to make sure the fire remained under control.
One of the fire trucks from the Springview/Keya Paha County volunteer fire department was on the scene to prevent the fire from moving from the target area.
Much of the debris is now burning.  The remaining debris will be removed from the lot to make room for some new addition to the Main Street community.

The house at the second location was demolished with tractors and loaders and hauled away.  There were about 12-15 people involved in the demolition and the removal of the two structures.  As the loaders removed some of the debris the crew at this location cleaned and readied the materials for the next load.

This house was located directly across the street from the post office.  It was a small stucco structure.  This house was razed and hauled to a disposal area.
The house was demolished by two tractors.  The pieces were then loaded for removal.
One of the loads of the house is being hauled to the dump location.  The burning of the other house can be seen in the back ground.
Clean-up crew kept the debris in one area so it could be accessed with the loaders.

The crew came in all age groups.  This young man was helping rake leaves and debris at the location of the fire.

There will continue to be additional activities on Main Street and elsewhere in our community.  Please watch for more community improvements.
